We believe everyone deserves access to free, independent, impartial, confidential advice to help them deal with life's problems and challenges. We have both paid staff and volunteers to support us delivering this service, whether that's directly through providing advice and support to clients, or behind the scenes, in our admin, communication, IT and other support teams.

Paid roles

Debt Adviser

We're recruiting a Debt Adviser to join a Reading Borough Council funded project to provide debt advice to local residents.  The Debt Adviser will interview people to understand their needs and when necessary will do a debt assessment and provide initial advice. 

The Debt Adviser will work closely with the Debt Caseworker and Debt Team Leader to provide appropriate next steps, including signposting, accepting and preparing the client's case for casework or referring the client for help with another issue.

Team Leader

We are recruiting a Team Leader to lead some of our frontline services teams. You’ll be line managing staff and/or volunteer advice teams and helping to supervise other paid and volunteer advisers across the service.

Volunteer roles

Volunteer Advisers

We need new volunteers to join our Advice Team to provide effective and efficient client interviews, both face to face and on the telephone. You don’t need any particular qualifications or experience to train for this role.

Training sessions for 12 weeks will be held on a Thursday morning commencing in the Autumn.

Trustees

Citizens Advice Reading is looking to strengthen its Board with three new Trustees with the following specialisms:  IT, fundraising and HR. Board experience is preferred but not essential. More importantly, we ask that you support our work, bring sound judgement and good governance. The role is voluntary and the time commitment is approximately 4 - 6 hours per month.
