About us
Citizens Advice Reading is an independent, voluntary organisation and a registered charity (No.1042542). We have been helping local people with their problems since 1939. Our services are free, independent, confidential and impartial.
We provide specialist advice to help people with a wide range of problems including benefits, debt and money and utilities.
Working in partnership, we also provide:
a welfare benefits service to cancer patients who are receiving treatment, and their families
a debt advice service to help people living in Reading Borough
a telephone helpline and webchat service to help make a new Universal Credit claim
a specialist energy advice service to help people make it through the cost of living crisis
Citizens Advice, our umbrella organisation, audits the quality of our advice. We work with many other organisations and can refer or signpost clients where appropriate to get the best help for them.
Research and campaigns
As well as providing advice to individual clients, we also carry out campaign work to lobby for changes in policies and services. Much of this work is done in association with the national Citizens Advice service. Our campaign successes improve the lives of many people who may never have used the services of Citizens Advice.

Get involved
To operate, we depend on support. We get most of our funding by providing contracted services on behalf of partner charities and the local council.
We also get a small proportion through fundraising and donations, from the community. To maintain our service, continuous funding is always required. Please consider donating if you are able.
We use paid staff and volunteers to run the service. If you would like to be one of our team, you'll find our current opportunities here.
